CIFEJ Days were held in Shiraz, Iran from 17 to 22 of November 2018 with the coordination of CIFEJ HQ, Sarv-e-Naz Gallery, Ms. Mahgan Farhang (CIFEJ member) and also some governmental and non-governmental organizations and institutions.

The Fest of Fests Launch Forum was held on June 25-28, 2018, at the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation in Athens.

This year workshop “Teaching the Teachers” was organized from 24th to 28th April 2018 in Mumbai, India.

34 CIFEJ members from different countries gathered together in Hyderabad to take part in the CIFEJ General Assembly.

We want to proudly announce that CIFEJ animation website named “Animation CKC” (CKC stands for CIFEJ Kids Club), started its work. A very hard work has been done since 3 years ago to design and prepare this website. This website has been designed for people between 12 and 18 and they can become familiar with the basic rules of animation and make their own animations. They can upload their own made animations on the website and these animations can be reviewed by some professional animators who can help them to improve their skills and knowledge in making animations.

“Wallay” was the CIFEJ prize winner film in 20th Olympia Int’l Film Festival for Children & Young People, which was held in Greece.

Josep Arbiol and Jaroslav Hunstova, the CIFEJ jury members in the IX International Children’s Television Festival “Dytiatko”, chose “The Other Kids” film as the winner of CIFEJ Prize.

The CIFEJ Juries (Firdoze Bulbulia, Sannette Naeye and Mohsen Chiniforoushan) decided to award CIFEJ Diploma of Honor to an Iranian film named “The End of Dreams” directed by Mohammad Ali Talebi in the 30th International Film Festival for Children and Youth in Isfahan.

Mohammad Bakhshi, a young Iranian director won the CIFEJ Prize for his film “Are you Volleyball?” in the 30th International Film Festival for Children and Youth which was held from the 30th of June to the 6th of July in Isfahan, Iran.

Ali Moallem, the great Iranian producer, critic, the publisher and editor in chief of the Picture of World Magazine and the director of the CIFEJ board, passed away on March 13, 2017. This is a note from Mohsen Chiniforoushan, the Secretary General of CIFEJ about him:

Ebrahim Forouzesh, Carmen Santos and Pierre Heber, the CIFEJ jury members in the 10th Tehran International Animation Festival chose a Russian animation named “Mama Heron” as the CIFEJ Prize winner.

In the 19th Olympia International Film Festival for Children and Young People which was held in December 2016 in Greece, an Indian film named “Ottaal” (The Trap) won CIFEJ Prize. This film is directed by Jayaraz Rajasekharan Nair and is the story of an eight-year-old boy named Kuttappayi, who is an orphan and goes to live with his kind grandfather. For a while, things are idyllic but Kuttappayi’s grandfather falls ill, and an opportunity seemingly arises for the young boy to go to school in the city. But all is not what it seems. The CIFEJ jury member who selected the film as the winner was Eszter Vuojala from Finland.

The film “My Daddy Eric Tsang” was selected as the CIFEJ Prize winner in the 8th International Children Television Festival “Dytiatko”, which was held from 21 to 24 of September in Kharkov, Ukraine.

CIFEJ board meeting and CIFEJ Days were held in Dubai from the 1st to the 5th of March 2016. Adab School hosted the event.

CIFEJ Days were held in Kurdistan, Iran since 20 till 24 of Feb.

Professor Dragan Milinkovic, the CIFEJ member, proposed a project named “Film in Schools” during the CIFEJ GA which was approved by the members to be performed. After a lot of efforts made by the CIFEJ HQ and especial engagement and personal influence of Mr. Mohsen Chiniforoushan, CIFEJ General Secretary, the first phase of the workshop was held in Iran with the collaboration of the Ministry of Education.

The film “Captain” made by Majid Esmaeili Parsa won the CIFEJ prize in the 29th International Festival of Films for Young Adults-Hamedan.

If it was up to me I would introduce animation lesson in every school at least for six months or a year just like a compulsory Physical Education lesson. Sport develops body, animation creates an individual. What does a child face while creating a one-minute film? A child faces creation of a whole world where a story takes place, analysis of its world and story.

“The Fort”directe by Avinash Arun from India has won CIFEJ Prize in the Olympia Int’l Film Festival for Children & Young People which was held on 29 Nov-06 Dec, 2014. This film was selected by CIFEJ Jury Member, Carmen Santos from Spain.

The CIFEJ Prize was gifted to the film "Promise" Directed by  Mohammad Ali Talebi, an iranian filmmaker, at the 28th Isfahan International Festival of Films for Children and Young Adults. .

The Doha Film Institute’s first Ajyal Youth Film Festival was held from November 26th to 30th, 2013 in Doha, Qatar. At the end of the festival, a number of films won cash prizes handed out by hundreds of jurors aged 8 to 21 who were categorized in 3 groups (Mohaq, Hilal and Badr). The inaugural two-day Ajyal Industry Forum (Nov. 27th-28th, 2013), themed “ Our Children First!”, ,,,,,, discussed aspects ranging from the value of local content to policy making and film marketing, and presented diverse perspectives of filmmakers from around the world.

 The CIFEJ jury member at the 16th Olympia International Film Festival for Children and Young People, Andrzej Roman Jasiewicz-CIFEJ member and the chair man of children and youth section of Polish Filmmakers Association from Poland- has announced “Irina – The Scarlet Briefcase” directed by Bernard Mazauric, as the winner of CIFEJ prize in this festival.

CIFEJ Headquarters, while thanking all those participated in the CIFEJ Short Film Script contest, is sorry to announce that none of the film scripts sent for the contest was recognized as compatible to the rules to enter the competition and receiving awards.

During the “CIFEJ Days” in Kharkov- the peak of success among all the programmes of CIFEJ in the new term- the First CIFEJ International Media Conference“Global Village, Children, Television and Cinema” was held. Filmscript workshop “From Idea to Film scriptwriting” conducted by the eminent Iranian filmmaker  “Rasoul Sadr Ameli” and animation and documentary film workshop  conducted by the CIFEJ member of the Board “ Maikki Kantola”for  children and young adults  were among other programmes of the CIFEJ day in Kharkov. The prize of CIFEJ  was awarded tothe film “All for one”,Television and Radio Company Sigma, programme Teenager (city of Lozova, Ukraine) and the director Daryna Liubshyna. CIFEJ PRIZE Winner films in previously held festivals in different parts of the world: A Flame in the Wind, director: Farhad Mehranfar; Harun- Arun, director: Vinod Ganatra; Red like the Sky, director: Cristiano Bortone; Themba, A boy called Hope, director: Stefanie Sycholt;  were screened during the festival at children’s schools. The board of CIFEJ met on September 26thand 27that the Hotel Kharkov conference room to discuss about the future of CIFEJ and its programmes. Organisation of the next CIFEJ General Assembly, initiation of a CIFEJ Club specialized for Children to be familiar with the art of filmmaking suggested and followed up by the Secretary General of CIFEJ, and considering new requests for membership were among the main issues discussed.    

Mrs. Firdoze Bulbulia, the President of CIFEJ and the International Jury Member of the 12th China International Children’s Film Festival together with other CIFEJ members and international guests involed in Children's film industry from various parts of the world actively participated in the 2- day " Int'l Children's Film Forum" held during the festival (12/13  Sep., 2014).

CIFEJ Film workshops were held successfully during the 12th China International Children’s Film Festival (September 10th to 14th, 2013) in Jilin Province by the CIFEJ Board member, Maikki Kantola from 8 a.m. for children and 9 a.m. for the adults till about 5 p.m. During these workshops which were full of fun and at the same time educative, children and young people made several animations and documentary films.

The CIFEJ Jury members at the 12th China International Children’s Film Festival, Maryam Bafekrpour-CIFEJ Executive Director (Iran), Pouran Derakhshandeh-CIFEJ Member and well-known Iranian filmmaker and producer(Iran), Faith Isiakpere- CIFEJ member and expert filmmaker and producer from Nigeria announced "Cool Kids Don’t Cry", directed by Dennis Bots, as the winner of CIFEJ Prize in this festival.

 CIFEJ DAYS was successfully held in Dubai. Thousands of young students enjoyed watching recently CIFEJ Winner Films "Harun-Arun", "A Flame in the Wind", "Themba: A Boy Called Hope", "Red like the Sky", "Movement 2012" at the Iranian Club in Dubai. Young students from Adab School and other foreign schools in Dubai participated in a 5 day animation workshop conducted by the eminent Iranian Animator “Abdollah Alimorad” from morning to the afternoon. Abdollah Alimorad has got several distinguished international and national prizes for his animations including Grand Prix of Cannes Junior 2001 for his cute animation “Bahador”. Other students participated in the “Story and Filmscript Writing" workshop conducted by the well known Iranian writer “Mehdi Shojaei” for 5 days and in the afternoons. During the event,CIFEJ Board met at the 4 star Hotel Parsian, located at the Iranian Club on January 16th and 17th, 2013.

The contest is dedicated to promote production of films and audio-visual media for children and young people that are culturally diverse, educational, and artistic.  All those writers who are interested in the art of animation or film for children and young people can participate in the event to facilitate their empowerment, inclusion and contribution, especially to a culture of peace and non-violence. The CIFEJ Jury Members at the 42nd Roshd International Educational Film Festival, Iran - including Rasoul Sadr Ameli, CIFEJ member from Iran, and Liset Cotera, CIFEJ member from Mexico - announced “A Flame In The Wind”, directed and co-written by “Farhad Mehranfar” as the winner of the CIFEJ Prize at this festival. This film also received the Golden Award and cash prize of the festival in the competition section of fiction films. Farhad Mehranfar has studied cinema at the University of Art (1977-1985). He has made more than 50 documentary films and 4 feature films; he is also the scriptwriter of most of his films. He has been the art director of Kiarostami's "And Life Goes On...".  He has got several national and international awards for his works.

 Dear friends, dear members of CIFEJ,  At present CIFEJ (Le centre international du film pour l'enfance et la jeunesse) (The International Centre of Films for Children and Young People) has no Liaison or Regional Office in any country, in any part of the world! The creation and location of the Regional CIFEJ offices and liaison offices as well as their mode of operationis subject to the rules laid down by the governing bodies of the Organization (Pls. see Article 6.4 of the CIFEJ Statutes).

In the beginning of the Isfahan Int’l Film Festival for Children, the highly esteemed member of CIFEJ, Athina Rikaki, President of CIFEJ for three terms (2002-2009), the educator and TV producer from Greece, with Vinod Ganatra, the eminent Indian filmmaker, winner of several distinguished international prizes and member of the board of CIFEJ (2007-2012) visited the CIFEJ Headquarters on Sunday in the afternoon.

New festivals, organizations, and individuals joined CIFEJ from Asia, America, and Europe. The CIFEJ Board accepted 10 of new requests for membership from Japan, USA, India, Iran, Pakistan, Ukraine, and Lebanon...... 

The CIFEJ board met in Tunisia from 8-10 June, 2012. CIFEJ hosted a 5-day-animation workshop in collaboration with International Cultural Centre of Hammamet and FIFEJ (Sousse International Film Festival) from 2 to 7 June 2012. CIFEJ Board member Maikki Kantola conducted the workshop, attended by 20 young people aged between 16-20 years and resulted in 4 x animations each film between 2-3 minutes in length. 

New Criteria for  membership in CIFEJ was forwarded by the CIFEJ HQ to the Board of CIFEJ. Based on the approval by the board at the meeting in Tunisia, the basic qualifications an individual or organization should have so that the membership request could be confirmed by the Board are as follows:  To be active  and well-known in the domain of Film for children and young people and to be experienced in this domain; To respect the Statutes of CIFEJ as well as the endorsements of the General Assembly and the Board;

Under  the  auspices of the 2012 AIBD Asia Media Summit, the United Nations agencies  hosted a pre-Summit one-day workshop on Monday 28 May 2012 for media  leaders  and  practitioners  from  across the Asia-Pacific region to jointly  examine  some  of  the  key  issues  around Millennium Developmentattainment and the media’s role within this, with the aim of moving towards greater mutual commitment for  enhancing  media  coverage  across  the region towards the MDGs ‘final push’: Firdoze Bulbulia, President of CIFEJ and Chairperson of CBFA, was a key speaker at the event.

I’m glad that the GA in Warsaw was held with the presence of the majority of the  members of CIFEJ in an active intimate atmosphere and had good outcomes in spite of the complaints and illegal- and contrary to the Statutes- acts of few of the members.  I thank all of you who tolerated the hardships of the trip and came to the GA or introduced representatives; I’m thankful to those who announced their support of us by phone, letter, or e-mail.  I hope all of us can bring more brilliance to CIFEJ and have a more fruitful collaboration in the domain of Film for children and young people all over the world.  In my opinion, GA 2012 has been a landmark in the history of CIFEJ; and with the new board, each one of us has assumed a heavier responsibility.  This board of directors has 2 significant specifications: 1- It's a mix of experienced members and power of youth.    The presence of some new, young, active board members together with the older and more experienced ones has made an ideal group that will result in great achievements. 2-The presence of representatives from various regions and continents in the world at the board (: 2 from Western Europe, 2 from Eastern Europe, one from Syria, 1 from South Africa, 1 from Lebanon, 1 from China and 1 from Iran) shows a good diversity that assists to the CIFEJ  global role. Thank all of you again. and I hope we can promote the quality of the CIFEJ programmes and projects and our more effective presence in the world of cinema and multimedia of children and young people. And this can be achieved only by respecting the Statutes and the active presence of the members and intimate relationship between us.  Naturally, Maryam (the Executive Director) will send you the minutes of the GA and will inform you of the first decisions made at the first new board meeting. The Biennial General Assembly 2011 of CIFEJ which was to be held in Warsaw from November 11  to 13 was postponed. Due to some members’ requests to have enough time to send their proposals and in the normal statutory time, and the approval of the majority of the CIFEJ board, the GA which was to be held extraordinarily with a few weeks ago advanced notice will be held from January 20 to 22, 2012. The host will be the same Association of Polish Filmmakers together with Polish Film Institute and Polish-British Foundation of Films for Young. During this ordinary General Assembly an extraordinary General Assembly will be also held for the modification of the Statutes. As mentioned before, those members of CIFEJ who have paid their membership 2011 have the right to vote. Also, they will be offered free registration; as well as 2–day-accommodation and meals for free by host. Free local transport (Warsaw airport-hotel-venues) will be also available. UNESCO:  Iranian National Commission for UNESCO evaluated “Layout & Graphic” of the CIFEJ magazine as Excellent with a positive viewpoint to its content.

Zdzisław Kudła and Andrzej Orzechowski won the CIFEJ Crystal Prize for the Polish feature animation “Copernicus's star” [Gwiazda Kopernika] at “Tehran International Animation Festival”.  This film is a production of Studio Filmów Rysunkowych, Poland  The CIFEJ Jury at the Tehran Int’l Animation Festival (March 6-10, 2010) were Firdoze Bulbulia, Andrzej Roman Jasiewicz, and Ali Moalem. Masha and the Bear series (the short episode “Footprints of Mysterious Animals”)[ Маша и Медведь: Следы невиданных зверей] from Russia won the Diploma for the best short animation selected by the CIFEJ Jury.

 Animate it! in Baku Telling stories with words, pictures, movement and sound “Erling Ericsson"                                                                                        Film is a language spoken all over the world: A unique combination of words, pictures, movement, and sound, introducing great possibilities for communication. New techniques have made the language of film available to everyone, offering new tools and expressions, especially for schools.                                        

   On the Occasion of  opening  the Baku  Animation Workshop for Children and Young Adults, Mohsen Chiniforoushan, the Sec-General of CIFEJ sent a message.        

Animate it! CIFEJ Headquarters with the kind support of ISESCO organizes the first animation workshops for children and young adults in Baku, Azerbaijan . Animate it! This is the title of the workshop held by the eminent Swedish animator and educator, Erling Ericsson, from 8th-12th Dec 2010.  Children of Baku welcomed this initiation so warmly and excitedly that we saw it as necessary to extend the workshop.

 Dear CIFEJ members, After months of planning and a big push, we are pleased at last to announce that we have completed our shiny new website. It took a tremendous amount of effort from several people in four months, but, we're very proud that the Iranian technical team has made it happen! We managed to have all important updated data on our new practical dynamic website though the road to this new site has been long and rocky at times. It’s said that “always a first time is the most different” and for me who was attending in ECFA GA for the first time, it was like that. The warm and sincere environ-ment of the GA and the relatively active presence of the members in the meeting, a meeting in good shape, were among the outstanding and distinctive characteristics of this assembly.
