Cinekid introduces award for Best Dutch Family Film

The Cinekid Foundation introduces a new award: an audience and a jury award for the Best Dutch Family Film. The prize will be awarded for the first time at this year's 24th Cinekid Festival in October. Films qualifying for selection have to be full length Dutch films made for children under the age of 14, produced in the year before the festival.
For some time Cinekid has wanted to recognize and reward high quality children's films made in the Netherlands, but until now too few films have been produced to justify a serious national competition. Today, however, the volume has grown to between 6 and 9 films per year and, due in part to the youth film policy of the Media Fund and the Dutch Film Fund, this growth has been matched by a similar improvement in both quality and diversity. In the past the genre was dominated by films made in Scandinavia, but today the Netherlands is internationally recognized as being a very important producer.
With the Best Dutch Family Film award, Cinekid hopes to create an annual platform upon which Dutch children's films can be placed in the spotlights.
